Why choose Trailer Training UK for your HIAB Training?

HIAB Training Course

Our HIAB training courses are designed for those who wish to use lorry mounted loader cranes.

These lorries can be very dangerous and complex pieces of equipment,
requiring technical knowledge, competent skill & statutory qualifications.
Both employer and employee have obligations to comply with the
Health & Safety at Work Act 1974, as well as PUWER 98 & LOLER 98
regulations etc.
Professional instruction and a qualification will meet the
requirements as laid down, and must be awarded by a governing body
with the training arranged through a professional training centre, such
as Trailer Training UK Ltd.

HIAB Course Aim

The aim is to provide the theoretical and practical knowledge to safely operate
a lorry mounted crane, and to qualify candidates in lorry loader operations.

Elements Covered

  • Health & Safety at Work Act 1974 and PUWER 98 & LOLER 98.
  • Pre-use checks on a loader and carrier.
  • Attachments, restraints and load security.
  • Factors affecting stability and mobility.
  • Motive controls and hydraulic controls.
  • Operating in open and confined areas.

Upon Completion

If not already registered, candidates will be registered onto the RTITB register of operators and issued with a photo identification card & certificate.

Courses are available at all of our sites using our equipment or on your site using your facilities and equipment. Courses are available 6 days a week at our Hampshire, Berkshire and Oxfordshire driver training centres.

Facilities Required on Your Site

If you’d like training to take place at your site, you must provide a training room suitable for the number of candidates, sufficient practical training space outside and a HIAB vehicle to carry out assessments & testing. Delegates will require PPE as per the company’s internal risk assessments. The vehicle and crane platform must be maintained & inspected, along with its necessary loading ancillaries (slings, hooks, pallets etc).

Things to Consider with Our HIAB Course
  • Qualified & Professional Instructors with Industry Experience

You should firstly ensure that your instructor and his registered centre are approved with an awarding body (such as RTITB, NPORS etc). They should be able to willingly provide credible references from the commercial sector upon request, to determine reliable and competence.

They should be able to comfortably deal with a range of queries you have relating to HIAB training as they will claim they have many years’ experience. Watch out for the constant “I will go and check and come back to you”!

  • HIAB Courses Delivered On-site at Your Premises or at a Training Centre

Be careful of the individual ‘one man band’ self-employed instructors, who are not part of an established professional centre set up. It is critical for training support and contingency, when things rarely inevitably go wrong, and often a notable difference in quality being employed with a local training centre.

Go and visit the training centre to see them in action and meet their staff and see their facilities for yourself. You want to know exactly what you’re paying for and how it will be delivered. Any centre should welcome you with open arms.

  • How many hours training per day you are actually paying for and getting?

Watch out for ‘it’s a 3 day course’, which actually turns out to just be 4 hours training per day. This is not enough to get you the professional skills and ensure you reach a highly competent standard practically.
